gettyimages5. Ted Turner buys the Braves

The Braves where bought buy media mogul Ted Turner in 1976. Turner used the Braves to help and try and give his struggling TV station TBS more viewers and to promote their shows. The Braves showed great growth and promise once Turner bought the team. Some of their greatest years occured under the ownership of Turner and Time Warner. Who know’s what the Braves would be like today without Turner every purchasing the team.

08    4. Cy Young Award Winners Aplenty

During the 90’s the Braves had arguably the greatest pitching staff of all time, and they proved it with the win’s and the awards the brought home. The first one in came in 1991, when Tom Glavine went 20-11 and posting a 2.55 ERA. The Braves then had 3 in a row come from the great Greg Maddux. He won his 2nd carrer Cy Young award(first with Braves) in 1993, 20-10 with a 2.36 ERA. He then won his 3rd and 4th consecutive Cy Young awards in 1994 and 1995. The Braves continued their dominance in pitching when John Smoltz, 24-8 with a 2.94 ERA in 1996. Then Tom Glavine won his 2nd Cy Young award in 1998, going 20-6 with a 2.46 ERA. The Braves pitching staff during the 1990’s is easily one of if not the greatest staff’s of all time.

The Atlanta Braves were one of the most dominant teams in the history of sports from 1991-2005, a time when they won 14 consecutive division championships. Pure dominance…! While they only won the world series one time(1995) during that time, this was one of the most dominant displayas every seen in sports. While the braves haven’t been as dominant since 2005, they soon hope to reclaim that prowess again soon.

Sports_Braves_0217082. Winning the 1995 World Series

The Braves win the World Series! In my opinion is one of the greatest moment(could be interchangable with Aaron hitting number 715) in Braves history. This was their 3rd World Series championship in franchise history, but it was the first since the team has been in Atlanta. In order to do so the Braves had to indure 6 games against the Clevland Indians, who had Orel Hershiser, Jim Thome, and later future Braves Kenny Lofton. It was a good series, but the Braves proved to be the better team prevailing in the 6th game at Fulton County Stadium by a score 1-0 on the heels of a Tom Glaivine gem. Come on Atlanta, let’s get back and win it again!

BE0219601. Hank Aaron Breaking Babe Ruth’s Home Run Record

Arguably one of the most exciting moments in sports and in Braves history is when Herny(Hank) Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s home run record by hitting number 715 on April 8, 1974 off LA Dodgers pitcher Al Downing in the bottom of the 4th at Atlanta Stadium. Though his record 755 homeruns was eventually broken by Barry Bonds, this moment when Aaron hit number 715 will go down in Braves history as one of the proudest and most special moments.
